Day 1 Pakse - Champasak (L)
After your breakfast we drive to Wat Phou Salao (Golden Buddha) where you can enjoy the view of Pakse and the Mekong Bridge before transfer to the pier for our boat trip along the Mekong River from Pakse to the charming colonial town of Champasak, after checking into your hotel spend the afternoon at Wat Phu. Take the short drive to Wat Phu. This Natural Heritage Site was built in the 6th century by the Khmers and was originally used to worship the Hindu god Shiva and other deities before being converted into a Buddhist temple in later centuries. Wat Phu was considered the center of the Khmer kingdom until it was moved to Angkor Wat in the 12th century
Day 2 Champasak – Don Khong (B/L)
08:00 Cross back over the river and drive to the town of Ban Kiat Ngong. Ban Kiat Ngong is situated in the Xe Pian National Protected area and a great place for bird watching enthusiasts. From Ban Kiat Ngong we take a 1-hour walk (~3 km) to the top of the Phu Asa to see the temple mount. From the top of Phu Asa you will see the ancient temple ruins and the amazing views of the Xe Pian Wetlands below. The walk down takes about 45 minutes. After exploring Phou Asa we transfer to the 4,000 Islands the main island of Don Khong, where we spend overnight
Day 3 Don Khong - Don Khone (B/L)
After breakfast we drive around Don Khong visit the locals making palm sugar and temple before enjoy motorboat down the Mekong to Don Khone pass by Don Det past the old ferry and onto the French railway bridge stop here for the night at a bungalow overlooking the Mekong and the French Bridge.
Day 4 Don Khone - Pakse (B/L)
Depart from Don Khone after breakfast by bicycle or by tuk tuk and visit Liphi waterfall before heading to the southern tip of Don Khone known as Han Khone here you will take a boat to see the Irrawaddy dolphins (it is also possible to travel by kayak) and continue on to the Cambodian border where transport will be waiting for you to take you to Khon Pha Peng waterfall. Have Lunch at Khon Pha Peng Waterfall before returning to Pakse, if continuing to Cambodian transport can be arranged if required.
